It is the season for putting down the paintbrush and picking up the palette knife and pastry bag in order to decorate holiday treats for gift giving. This year we decided to bake chocolate and yellow cupcakes rather then sugar cookies which wasn't quite as much work but still just as much fun! Happy Holiday's!

The Catalpa Tree is just stunning when the flowers are in bloom and have painted them into a 5’ x 6’ oil on canvas. I perched my easel on a wooded ridge trail overlooking the river through the trees below. This made for a lovely spot to do an acrylic on canvas. Working for almost an hour, I decided to take a break and sit down on a fallen tree trunk, taking a minute first to look around for any creepy crawling bugs.🕷🕸 But to my surprise, a nest of angry ants came out from the tree only to bite my legs, sending me to jump forward then stumbling into my easel and trays full of wet paint. 🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜 It's been quite a learning experience in the art of video making. I'm still in the process of understanding file sizes, downloading, editing and more, but it hasn't stopped me from filming some of the many painting adventures which I truly love to explore and having the opportunity in sharing them with you! ![]() Spider Crab Illustration in Watercolor & Gouache 16"x 20" painted quite a few years back while creating work for an exhibition at the Audubon Society's Educational Center in Bristol, RI. Below is a recent video location where I saw a live baby spider crab. Part of the outdoor painting experience is in not knowing what I might encounter along the way. On this particular outing, I had to relocate three times due to being bitten by little red ants. This beach morning glory painting study would just have to be finished at home. Some days when I head out to paint, my time is very limited or the weather begins to change and I’ll have to pack it up and run. And on other days a painting just doesn’t work out so I’ll turn the page to my sketchbook and begin a new study. But to me it’s all an important part in gaining the knowledge of a subject while embracing the adventure of the day! 🌦 I'm always out and about seeking new and interesting things to paint in nature. On this walk along the beach, I came across a large piece of driftwood covered in a soft blue/grey mass of barnacles. |
AuthorI feel as if my artwork gives the viewer an insight into my life's journey. This is most evident in a plein air painting, where I can reflect back to a time and location. My sketchbooks tell a different story of thoughts and ideas scribbled within my drawing and painting studies. Archives
