It is the season for putting down the paintbrush and picking up the palette knife and pastry bag in order to decorate holiday treats for gift giving. This year we decided to bake chocolate and yellow cupcakes rather then sugar cookies which wasn't quite as much work but still just as much fun!
Happy Holiday's! The Catalpa Tree is just stunning when the flowers are in bloom and have painted them into a 5’ x 6’ oil on canvas.
It's been quite a learning experience in the art of video making. I'm still in the process of understanding file sizes, downloading, editing and more, but it hasn't stopped me from filming some of the many painting adventures which I truly love to explore and having the opportunity in sharing them with you! Spider Crab Illustration in Watercolor & Gouache 16"x 20" painted quite a few years back while creating work for an exhibition at the Audubon Society's Educational Center in Bristol, RI.
Below is a recent video location where I saw a live baby spider crab. Part of the outdoor painting experience is in not knowing what I might encounter along the way. On this particular outing, I had to relocate three times due to being bitten by little red ants. I would just have to finish painting this beach morning glory study at home.
Some days when I head out to paint, my time is very limited or the weather begins to change and I’ll have to pack it up and run. And on other days a painting just doesn’t work out so I’ll turn the page to my sketchbook and begin working on a new study. But to me it’s all an important part of the process in gaining the knowledge of a subject by first doing the research, preliminary sketching and painting before tackling a larger canvas. 🌦

AuthorI feel as if my artwork gives the viewer an insight into my life's journey. This is most evident in a plein air painting, where I can reflect back to a time and location. My sketchbooks tell a different story of thoughts and ideas scribbled within my drawing and painting studies. Archives
